Max/K5PP, Buzz/N5UR, Bob/N5ET, Mike/W5ZPA, and Don/W5FKX drove down to Grand Isle, LA to participate in the IOTA contest as N5I from NA-168. We were all guests at the Lost Boys camp of Tim Clement and Russell Heim, business associates of Max & Buzz. While Russell and Tim labored to put the finishing touches on the camp, we toiled at the radio! Photos courtesy of Bob/N5ET.

The Lost Boys Camp - our operating abode for the weekend.

View of the inland marshes to the north, looking out on the side deck towards Barataria Bay.

Buzz/N5UR, sitting at the dining table and consulting the propagation gods on his all-band, all-mode, wifi communicator, while on-going construction continues around him.

Lost Boys owners, Tim Clement (rear) and Russell Heim, laying flooring in the hallway to the rear bed & bathrooms.

Max/K5PP, at the main operating position, working a few before the IOTA contest begins. The secondary stand-by station is off to the left.

Buzz/N5UR, at the main operatin position. The standby station (IC-707MkII) can be seen on the left.

Max/K5PP, and Bob/N5ET, discussing strategy on the front deck, right after completing the erection of the 2-el StepIr beam (seen in picture at right).

Another view of the Lost Boys camp, shoing the StepIR beam on the front deck and the Cushcraft AP-8 all-band vertical in the side yard. The StepIR vertical can be partly seen in the rear yard.

Camp owner, Tim, sharing a lunch break with Don/W5FKX, and Mike/W5ZPA.

Gathering storm clouds on Friday evening indicate that QRN is to be expected!

The annual Grand Isle Tarpon Fishing Rodeo was held that weekend ...

.. and the traffic on Saturday was continuous all day and late into the night!

We had a great time and, despite noise and poor conditions, managed to provide a contact with NA-168 to quite a few stations world-wide. Our sincere thanks to Russell, Tim, and all of the Lost Boys for their wonderful hospitality.
